Bob and his daughter Amy from Madison Wisconsin pictured with some outstanding spring steelhead from day one of a two day trip. Special thanks to Amy, who over the past couple years I’ve come to respect as a true steelhead angler. She has fished in some of the toughest fishing conditions one can face in the winter and fall on the Muskegon. Today was her day though, as she was rewarded with as many hook-ups as only the peak spring steelhead run can offer on the Muskegon river. Well-earned Amy! Great fish guys!
Spring steelhead fishing conditions are outstanding. It’s been a long time since having such high water at 5000 to 4500 cfs in late April. These high water conditions are the perfect setting to bring more steelhead up the river system. Every push of water brings more steelhead up.
Midge and stone flies are starting to create surface activity with the trout. Peak May fishing dates are available as the steelhead and large size trout on dry flies will be the main focus as we transition into late spring / May.
