Birthday boy Scott (pictured on right) along with his brother Griff presenting the best birthday gift ever, an awesome Double Stripe, Alpha Male, Muskegon River Steelhead.
Here’s proof…it’s better to give than receive. Birthday Gift Giver Griff receiving a reward for his generosity, a beautiful 32″ Hen.
With a few words of encouragement from the friendly guide, Griff learned to set the hook!
Here’s Scott’s 22″ Rainbow (look at the forked tail), crossing that transitionary stage from trout to steelhead.
Here’s another one of Griff’s spring steelhead.
Here’s Griff with a scrappy buck.
The river has transitioned from high (5,000 cfs) and dirty to low (3,200 cfs) and clearing and back again to high (4300 cfs) & dirty. Recent rains and continued rains should help the cause by shuffling the deck allowing fresh fish to enter and enable the angler to get away with, “going big.” Big flies and heavy line. Look for trout fishing/rises to increase significantly as we approach warmer days and 50 degree water temps. Anyone want to catch 22″ brown trout on #5 weight rods with size 18-22 dry flies? If so, give me a call. We love to hunt down big brown trout on the Muskegon in May & June!
Special thanks to the Gray Drake Lodge for providing the trip!
