Year after year for the past 25 years guiding the Muskegon river has always produced massive steelhead during the dead of winter in January and February, and today was no different.
Not sure what triggers these adult steelhead to come up river in the coldest months of the year but they do every year.
This big beautiful chrome hen struck the very next cast in the same exact spot as the big male pictured above.
I think this big hen was the girlfriend of the large buck pictured above. They both struck in the very same spot the very next cast positioned in the “gut” of the pool. Both were very fresh, very chromed out!
Every once in a while the Mighty Muskegon River (Mighty Mo) flexes its muscle and proves just how much of a world class fishery this river system really is producing incredible fresh water steelhead like the ones pictured here.
Fresh steelhead are on the move as the water temps start to cool down along with the fishing pressure opening up the door to some extra special winter steelhead fishing on the Muskegon river!
