Here’s Todd from Indiana taking full advantage of his wife’s Christmas gift of a guided fishing trip on the Muskegon river during the peak of the spring steelhead run. I think it’s safe to say Todd can come to appreciate what a push of water does for the steelhead fishing. As the water levels rise, more steelhead are instantly triggered to make the migration up the river system.
For many years now the Muskegon river has produced excellent steelhead fishing well into May and sometimes June. Each new push of water due to May showers brings fresh steelhead up the river system. It’s very common during these pushes of water to see one spot that hasn’t produced any fish one day produce double digit numbers the next due to the flow.
So don’t be discouraged the next time the Muskegon hits flood stage. Embrace the higher water and get out and fish!
